WYSA – COVID19 RESPONSE

We face challenges no one has been presented with in modern times and a global concern.  Each and every family in Kentucky is feeling the impact of the measures we all must take to protect our loved ones and try to curb the spread of this virus.

The Board is keeping in close contact with Woodford County Health Department and we are making changes to our COVID Policy as more information is released and as infection rates change.  We ask that you all have patience with us in these ever changing times and know we are trying to make the best choices for the players and families of our great club.

COVID-19 Protocols

While we know our primary concern is the well-being of the individuals who become infected with COVID-19, we also realize the impact that exposure to infected individuals can have on you and your family.

We rely on guidance provided by the Woodford County Health Department as well as KYSA to develop protocols that protect playing time as well as the health and wellbeing of our players, our coaches, and their families.

Close Contact Criteria

A contact is defined as a person who was within 3 feet for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more of a person infected with COVID-19.

When an exposure occurs, the parent or guardian of every player who has been identified as a close contact will be notified immediately.  The Woodford County Health Department will provide 2 quarantine options as described below:

Option 1: 10-Day Quarantine

This option is generally best for non-household contacts who are symptomatic or who are unable or unwilling to test on or after Day 5 following exposure

  • 10-Day Quarantine Period starting with the last day of contact
  • Return to soccer on Day 11 after exposure

Option 2: Early Release

This option is recommended for non-household contacts who are asymptomatic and who get tested on or after Day 5 following exposure.  If the contact receives a negative test result AND remains asymptomatic through the end of Day 7, the contact will qualify for Early Release on Day 8.

  • 7-Day Quarantine Period starting with the last day of contact
  • Return to soccer on Day 8 after exposure

Vaccinated Individuals

Quarantine for vaccinated individuals who have been identified as close contacts is determined by the presence or absence of symptoms.
  • Vaccinated individuals who are asymptomatic do not have to quarantine.
  • Vaccinated individuals who are experiencing symptoms that are compatible with a COVID-19 diagnosis are advised to quarantine.

Prevention

By utilizing the layered prevention strategies recommended by the CDC such as vaccination, masking, social distancing, and contact tracing, we can prevent outbreaks and ensure an uninterrupted soccer season!

  • Vaccination:  For students and coaches age 12 and up, vaccination is the single-most effective defense we have against the virus that causes COVID-19.  While the DELTA variant has resulted in a substantial number of breakthrough cases in vaccinated adults,  the symptoms are generally milder and the period of illness is generally shorter in vaccinated individuals.  Fortunately,  we have seen ZERO breakthrough cases in the 12-18 age group.
  • Masking:  Universal masking is recommended by both the American Pediatric Association,  the CDC, and KDPH in all indoor settings.  It is not necessary to mask outdoors as long as players and coaches are capable of distancing themselves at least 3 feet from one another.
  • Social Distancing:  Effective social distancing eliminates the need for quarantine.  When an exposure occurs, the Woodford County Health Department will rely on the coach’s recollection of events to determine whether or not players and other coaches and/or volunteers need to quarantine.

We all play a role in protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our children, coaches, volunteers, and families and we appreciate your willingness to follow current guidance as recommended by the CDC, KDPH, KYSA and the Woodford County Health Department.

Soccer helps our children grow confidence,  develop conflict resolution skills,  learn how to cooperate, support their team, develop communication skills, and respond appropriately to disappointment.   By working together, we can  provide our community’s children with a robust soccer season that they will remember for years to come!

HERE is a document titled “Quarantine Guidelines for All”, provided by the Woodford County Health Department. If you have additional questions with regard to COVID-19, please send a text message to 859-582-3886, and be sure to include your contact information.

We would like to thank everyone at the Woodford County Health Department in helping us to stay up to date with these ever changing guidelines.  We appreciate your commitment and long hours working to protect everyone in our community.
